Pastoral and Spiritual Care of Older People

is a national organisation to support those
who provide pastoral and spiritual care to older people.

Vision: To promote and pursue excellence in the provision of pastoral and spiritual care for the benefit of older people living in Australia.

Mission Statement: To raise community awareness and promote education, training and support for practitioners of pastoral and spiritual care with older people.

This organisation will provide an opportunity for national discussion, collaborative development and promotion of informed initiatives to support the work of organisations and people who have an interest in improving the quality of life and care of older people; particularly in relation to provision of pastoral and spiritual care.

There is a need to develop a robust evidence base that will inform education and training initiatives. This network will assist in advocating for the pastoral and spiritual needs of older people in avenues that include government at the level appropriate to the particular issue.

Development of this proposed national organisation:
The need was identified at a National Conference on Ageing conducted by the Centre for Ageing and Pastoral Studies in 2008. { >> OUTCOMES OF 2008 CONFERENCE }
Interested persons then attended a workshop held on 25 June 2009.
Ongoing consultations with interested persons in a steering committee led to a resolution at a National Conference in 2010 that a national organisation be developed by CAPS
..

A task group of CAPS is now working to establish this body. { >>NEWS}
